Henry Coe State Park
Henry Coe has over 250 miles of hiking trails and is only 30 minutes from one of the biggest urban areas in the country. In late February and early March the Blue Oak start to bud and cover the hillsides. The buds are florescent green and are small enough not to hid the crooked limbs. On this particular morning I woke to fog dancing in the valley just before sunrise and was lucky enough to capture this scene!

Patagonia's Grey Glacier below a Lenticular Sky. The coloring is due to the ice’s absorption of red wavelengths of light and scattering of blue wavelengths of light as it is transmitted through the ice.
Incoming Shelf Cloud
This storm hammered the entire west coast of Michigan, bringing massive hail in northern lower Michigan. Seen here is the Grand Haven Lighthouse with a looming shelf cloud moving quickly. The winds picked up and lightning began to strike behind the shelf cloud. Swimmers braved as much of the strom as possible but were forced to retreat.
Fourteen separate wildfires are ravaging California right now. These fires are sending particulate into the atmosphere which mitigate the light from the sun. The result are perfect "red ball" sunsets and sunrises. This evening the whole last hour of sunset displayed perfect mitigated red sun.

First is Portola Redwoods State Park, then Pescadero State Park, then Butano State Park. Finally finishing at the Pacific Ocean with Ano Nuevo State Park, where Elephant seals haul out on the beaches. As the sun set a Great Horned Owl broke the silence of the twilight and a big moon rose over the shoulder.
The Columbia River Gorge is a fairy tale for lovers of the outdoors. Located near Portland Oregon, the Gorge gets its name from the river that continues to shape it. The Columbia River originates in the Canadian Rockies, draining an area the size of France. It travels 1,243 miles on its journey, eventually meeting up with the Pacific Ocean. Metlako Falls is located on Eagle Creek which is part of this system. Fog, moss, and time have come together to create this magical place!
20 Days of Rain
Every waterfall in the world fits into a handful of different classifications. The classifications have names like horsetails, cascades, ledges, etc. This waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge near Portland Oregon is why there is a classification called punch bowl. Creatively, its named Punch Bowl Falls and located along Eagle Creek Trail. Water pushes through a narrow chute and then drops 35 feet into a larger bowl. On this day in December you had to stand in knee high frozen water to even get a view. It had rained straight for the last 20 days and water was cascading from all the ledges leading up to the falls.
